Is Masonry Christian?

Does The Masonic Lodge Exalt The Bible?

Perhaps one of the reasons I thought that Freemasonry was a good institution at first was that I was told it exalted the Bible. Several friends informed me that the Bible was placed on an altar in the Lodge, and that much Masonic ritual was based upon the Holy Scriptures. Surely, then, the Lodge must at least be attempting to follow the Word of God, correct?

Sadly, I was mistaken.

While Masons are taught to hold the Bible in reverence, they are taught to do the same for religious books of any faith. This is due to the fact that in order for a person to join the Lodge, he must believe in any kind of higher power. The basic designation for this being is the Great Architect of the Universe. Accordingly, Masons are taught that they need to reverence any book of faith. Albert Pike, the Supreme Commander of the Lodge for a number of years, said it like this in his book, Morals And Dogma:

"The Bible is an indispensable part of the furniture of a Christian Lodge, only because it is the sacred book of the Christian religion. The Hebrew Pentateuch in a Hebrew Lodge, and the Koran in a Mohammedan one, belong on the Altar; and one of these, and the Square and Compass, properly understood, are the Great Lights by which a Mason must walk and work. The obligation of the candidate is always to be taken on the sacred book or books of his religion, that he may deem it more solemn and binding; and therefore it was that you were asked of what religion you were. How can a Christian vow to uphold the religious creeds of false gods like Allah? The Bible is the complete and final revelation of the ONE true God to mankind (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Shall a Christian join hands with a Muslim at the altar of Masonry and support him in this false religion?

Someone might object, "No, Mark. I know that you must be misunderstanding what Pike has written."

Let's take a closer look:

"Masonry, around whose altars the Christian, the Hebrew, the Moslem, the Brahmin, the followers of Confucius and Zoroaster, can assemble as brethren and unite in prayer to the one God who is above ALL THE BAALIM, must needs leave it to each of its Initiates to look for the foundation of his faith and hope to the written scriptures of his own religion." The Lodge seeks to join together all religions at the altar of Freemasonry. Who is included? All religions, including the followers of the Christian God. Yet what is truly terrifying is how Pike then characterizes the gods of the religions (including the God of Christianity). He calls them "baalim."

False gods.
 The Lodge teaches that the God of the Bible is a false god, and that all gods of all religions are equally valid.

With every bit of strength in my body, I deny this.

What does the God of the Bible proclaim?

Isaiah 45:5-I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me,

Now, I have a question for the Christian who also supports the Lodge.

Does God approve of what you are doing?

2 Corinthians 6:14-18-14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM. I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE." 17 Therefore "COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM AND BE SEPARATE, SAYS THE LORD. DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN, AND I WILL RECEIVE YOU." 18 "I WILL BE A FATHER TO YOU, AND YOU SHALL BE MY SONS AND DAUGHTERS, SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY."

The truth is clear to those who are willing to see.

Friends, if you are not a Christian, I implore you to turn to the Son of God this very day. Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and arose again on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1-8). Will you not today believe in Him as the Son of God (Acts 16:31), repenting and being baptized by the authority of Christ for the remission of your sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)? If you are a Christian who has been supporting the Lodge, or involved in any sin, I encourage you to repent of that today and seek the Lord's forgiveness in prayer (1 John 1:9).

The grace of The Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
